5K Run Award

Does the Watch somehow award the 5K Run Award only for registered 5K races? I recently ran a Thanksgiving Day 5K and got the 5K Run Award on my Fitness App. Made sense since my watch clocked 3.13 miles. But I have logged many runs of between 3.1 and 3.3 miles in the weeks/months leading up to the race, as well a few since, but have only gotten the award that one time. Does it cross reference some database of known events or something?

No, it’s just glitched like every other new feature Apple pushes out. Do the developers even use these products? I get the 5K/10k award about 75% of the time. Sometimes a day or two later. I started running 3.12 and 6.23 miles and that helps the odds of getting it. Another one that’s glitched, for me anyway, is the fastest 5K award. I have over 315 5Ks but it awarded it for one of my slowest runs and never updates to a faster run. Makes no sense. The update before they added a feature where it will announce your progress during the run by stating the mile run and current pace. That is a great feature but only seldom works and when it does, it usually announces it on the watch instead of the AirPods so you can’t hear it. Good luck getting the awards.

No. If you use the Workout and run a full 5K it should award you. You can even enter a 5K run as raw data in iphone Health app and you get a badge. I added a 6K run in an attempt to test another user's problem and I now have a 5K award I can't delete!

There must have been something lacking in the way you recorded the practice races. I have no idea what.

Thanks for your reply. When I updated the watch OS to 9.2 a couple weeks ago, it all the sudden listed about half of my 5K runs (there's a little 19 under the badge, but I've had about 35 or 40 5K practice runs). The down side is that ever since the update, my watch randomly pauses my workout in the middle of my run, so I have to constantly check it to restart it so it will log all (or most of) my run. Very annoying.

Skin pigmentation and Tattoos will affect the light transmission required by the wrist detection and HRM on the back of the watch

Wearing on the other wrist or further up the arm may help but there is no other workaround for tattoos which affect all makes of sports watch

First force restart the Watch

i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.

Then, although it may seem irrelevant, Force Restart the paired iphone   Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

If is is still misbehaving...

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch

and then
