Mobile provider (Apple X) not providing eSim - workaround for using Apple watch cellular

My carrier does not offer eSim, and my Apple X does not support eSim anyway. However, I would like to use the cellular feature of my Apple Watch 8 Series.

Second-best solution: I take out an additional cell phone contract and use it for both devices based on a multiple card (mobile device with a plastic sim card and an additional eSim for the watch). Cons: The contract for my cell phone is unbeatably cheap.

Preferred solution: I use my Apple X to initialize an eSim for my Apple Watch based on a new account under the family sharing feature, without using the eSim for the Apple X itself, so I have two accounts in one family and separate contracts. The Watch would then function as a standalone device (with its own phone number). At least in this document under the Apple Help section (in German) the conclusion I draw is that it should work: Apple Watch für ein Familienmitglied konfigurieren - Apple Support (DE)

Questions:

  1. Is the "preferred solution" applicable in each step?
  2. If the answer to question 1 is "no", do you have another idea?

From Apple Watch - Carriers - Apple I see that there appear to be four carriers that support Apple Watch Cellular in Germany.

  • 1&1
  • O2
  • Telekom (Supports Family Setup)
  • Vodafone

Ideally you want your carrier to support Apple Watch so you don't run a separate number, but can make and answer calls and texts using the watch when it is more convenient than the phone. When I got a cellular watch in the UK I made the mistake of switching first from O2 to Vodafone, to get watch support, only to discover Vodafone (at the time at any rate) didn't handle visual voicemail properly, so had to migrate again to EE.

I'm afraid I don't know if any of your ideas regarding the eSim are viable but thought you might nevertheless benefit from my experience.
