no mail folders in Mail

When I click on the Mail icon it opens Mail as usual and there is a sidebar - says Favorites the only mail folders there are Inbox, Flagged, - but no Sent, Junk, or Trash? How do I get them there? ( And now there are no mail folders at all - they have disappeared)
