kcal vs cal on Fitness

How is it possible that changing kcal to cal on the settings of Fitness app, the value remains the same? 1 kcal = 1000 cal or?

So 1 kcal = 1 Cal

and 1 Cal = 1000 cal?

Here's the deal: a calorie is a pretty small amount of energy, about 1/4200 joule. So for human energies, people use a kilocalorie, 1/4.2 joule. But people are way too lazy to say kilocalorie, so another unit was invented, the Calorie. Notice the capital C. So 1 Calorie = 1000 calories. Pretty silly, really. And, of course, the same laziness meant that people started dropping the capital C.


So the only way to tell what someone means when they say calorie is from the context. In your image above, the C must be a capital, since it's written KCAL. But, they could just be lazy. But you can count on this: If it's about food and people, it's Calorie, 1/4.2 J.
