Updated to ISO 15.7.2 can not hear or talk to callers

I just updated my iPhone 7+ to ISO 15.7.2 I lost the ability to hear or talk to callers. I can communicate through Blue tooth though. I understand this is an older phone, but this IS a software issue. One moment it works fine and after the update it doesn't. Will Apple concede that this is an issue and create a patch for this? Or at least offer a fix without going to the Apple store. Seems to me, in this day and age, that's the way it should be done! How many others have this issue? Do you have a fix?

p.s. I've followed the trail of" how to fix your iPhone", and nothing worked

Just an update, turns out the update may have been to much for my sound board. The Genius at the Apple bar told me that this is a problem with the (iPhone 7+) older phone. As the phone ages, that part of the hardware diminishes and the update would put it over the top. Good news is that I can still receive calls through any blue tooth device, ie; car, ear buds etc. at least until I get this phone repaired or buy a new one.

thanks for the input.

Hi dmantha,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities!

You mentioned that you tried a few steps that did not work. Are the steps in this article: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker- Apple Support the ones you are referring to?

1. If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move the switch forward—toward the device's display—so that orange isn't showing. If you're using an iPad, you can also swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.
2. Open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure that Do Not Disturb is off.

Contact Apple Support
If you checked the sound settings and your device still has sound issues, contact Apple Support to discuss service options.

If you want to try more steps on your own

If you prefer, here are some more steps you can try on your own. After following these steps, you might still need to contact Apple Support to discuss service options.

1. Remove all screen protectors, films, or cases from your device.
2. Check the speaker opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. On iPhone only, make sure that the receiver isn't blocked or dirty.
3. If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small, soft-bristled brush. Make sure that the brush is clean and dry.
4. Go to Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics), and drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times. If you don't hear any sound, or if your speaker button on the Ringer and Alerts slider is dimmed, your speaker might need service.
5. If you hear sound, try making a call with your iPhone and turn on speakerphone. On iPad or iPod touch, make a FaceTime call. If you still can't hear, or hear static or crackling, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try to call again later, or from a different location.

If so, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support for additional assistance and possible service options. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here: Get Support.

Have a good one!

Thank you Trish313 for your reply.

yes I have tried all the above suggestions, but to no avail.I have dealt with Apple support online, and they’ve fail to resolve the issue. Now my only option is to go to an Apple Store, which will review this process again, only to tell me, that it can be repaired for a cost. I firmly believe it’s a software issue, and therefore should not have to bare the burden of the expense. I’ve researched online and I know Apple has been deemed negligible in their responsibility with how they’ve dealt with older phones. I find it unreasonable that we can not undue the update, or be warned that the update may not be compatible with older phones. Or, that there is not a patch available to make this right. I’m extremely frustrated. When Apple term are met the phones work well, but when the phones fail, Apple is difficult to deal with.
