Using a number with a dash in a text address

I need to enter a number with a dash into the address bar for a text. It removes the dash, consequently the text won't deliver. Example 123-456.

I'm sure there is a way to do this. I have searched the community but the posts on point are very old, and the instructions are not relevant any longer as the keyboard has changed.
