Battery Drain on iPhone - Apple Maps - iOS 16.x

Since the rollout of iOS 16, my iPhone 13 Pro battery has drained very fast (for example, this morning I was at about 90% at 7:15a and by 11:45a I was at 5% battery and all I used my phone for was a . It appears to happen whenever I use Apple Maps (typically in CarPlay). Apple Maps shows up as the primary app consuming battery in the battery app in settings. I further tested this by deleting Apple Maps (I used Google Maps during this time) and sure enough, my phone battery life was fine. I ended up reinstalling Apple Maps and the problem came back. It seems like users on Reddit and macforums are also complaining about this but I haven't seen any solutions (and I would rather not delete Apple Maps if I can avoid that). Hoping that someone here as an answer and/or that this is on Apple's radar to address in subsequent updates.

I stopped responding to that individual. I recognize a bully when I see one. There is obviouisly and issue and instead of either offering possible solutions or staying out of it, they have done nothing but argue that there isn't an issue. We all know that Apple isn't monitoring this site and it is just a forum for Apple users to communicate and possibly help each other out. This individual is not being helpful at all. No point in continuing a conversation.

My issue was resolved by uninstalling both Google and Apple maps and then factory resetting my phone. Once I reinstalled both Apple and Google maps... I haven't had the issue since. But, I do always close out Apple Maps, if I use navigation, once I arrive at my destination. Not saying that anyone or combination was the trick, as I just did it all at once out of frustration. I have a 14 Pro and plug in to use Apple Car Play. I just recieved another update... hoping the problem doesn't reappear. Anyway, I hope you are able to find a solution. Maybe you can try what I did? Agian, I am not sure what exactly fixed it... but for now it is fixed.

ANd we are not alone... I know of many people with 12s and newer that are having issues. But not everyone... so who knows what the real problem really is.

anyway - I hope your day goes well :)

I've never seen an iPhone draw power faster than it could charge unless your charger is not providing sufficient power (like using an old USB charger in a car or a USB port that does not provide proper power).

Apple doesn't make a car charger, so I'm not sure which charger you are referring to in your statement.

I just returned from a weeklong trip that used Apple Maps via CarPlay on a 14 Pro Max running 16.5.1 for several hours at a time for nine days in a row with no similar issues, so there has to be some additional factor involved.

This was even when dropping in and out of areas with cell coverage, something that usually causes greater battery usage than usual as the phone uses full power to try to connect to a cell tower, but the phone instead showed the "satellite" icon indicating there were no cell towers of any kind it could reach.

As always, your best bet is opening a case directly with Apple Support as they are best equipped to determine what additional factors may be at play:
