Printer presets not saving

Since upgrading to Ventura, my printer presets are not saving. I already had working printer presets in place before upgrading, such as 2 page B&W from drawer three. Part of the preset works. It will print 2 page B&W, but it doesn't pull specifically from drawer three. I've only noticed a problem in the drawer selection and the scaling options. I tried creating new presets and those didn't work either. I also updated the driver and it didn't correct it.

I've read posts from other people will similar issues, but the only responses I see are how to set up a preset. Not knowing how to create a preset is clearly not the issue. It doesn't seem to be printer specific (this happens with my Brother printer and my Canon printer), nor computer specific (this happens with both of my Macs). I had hoped this would be fixed with 13.1, but the problem still exists. Any ideas?

Yes. 13.0.

That dialog will look different depending on your hardware and driver, but also the software you're printing from.

Regardless of how they're configured to look, try to force the Print using system dialog option in both software (Firefox and the one you'll eventually be printing from). The trigger for that will also most likely look different from mine.

The second key part is to save the preset in Firefox as a Print Job Preset.

Hi LemmyIan,

That was really helpful in that I think was able to narrow down the issue. Are you by any chance printing via AirPrint?

Per Canon's instructions I have been printing directly to the printer via the printer's IP address. Each time I choose a preset the tray is not remembered.

If I print via AirPrint the presets are remembered. The reason Canon wanted me to print to an IP is because their driver allows me to set specific paper types and weights. Not sure how important that is now. But is seems like AirPrint resolved the issue.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm not sure why but maybe u right its the printer. but I have a few Xerox machines and 2 Oki different machines with different software. and in any program its just switching back to auto select even in Firefox its not holding at all, even for a second u go away from that screen - clicking print u come back its back to auto select. the only reason it is possible to print to certain trays through Firefox or Chrome or Safari, is because the print button on all 3 browsers are right by the same screen. so it works for 1 time only. but any other program which has an ok button first and then print, after the ok is clicked it switches back automatically to auto select. but your solution is just not working at all the preset in any program even in Firefox switches by the tray to auto select. I don't know. something not adding up, it's completely not working. Is your machine Mac Studio or something else. maybe it has to do also. because I cant believe that just your printer specifically does work and I have 6 other printer software or 7 I think, and all are not working only yours. does not make sense. and it seems from all indicators that the issue is not printer software related. something telling me we are not on same page.

Booting into safe mode is a suitable support suggestion sometimes, although here it is effectively useless.

VPNs serve a legitimate purpose on MacOS, applications like 'Suspicious Package' for Package Inspection is useful. Applications like 'TaskExplorer', 'KnockKnock' or 'Grand Perspective' are all valid and useful tools for ensuring your Macbook is free from anything potentially harmful and clean.

what's going to be? I'm sending feedback every single day, and some of my employees also. this is crazy! no solution. I'm going nuts!!!! I would want everyone reading this should send feedback Feedback - macOS - Apple

bombard them with feedback maybe they will fix this. I think they are too busy with visionPro which I'm not even so excited about.

C'mon Apple lets get back to the olden days when an update fixed problems.

so today I thought lets do something maybe it will help. I removed all printers. went to Xerox website, went to oki website. downloaded the latest drivers and installed anew everything. u think this helped NOOOOOO! it just made things worse. now i think all the messages are right, because until now I basically only had issues with the tray going back to auto select, now all settings are not saving. this is craziness beyond belief!!!!!!!!

another problem I realized. when selecting more than 1 copy lets say 2 copies or more in the printer dialoge window. 1. it does not give u the option to collate. 2. when the 2 copies hold - which is like 1 of 10 times - it sends the document 2 times to the printer. so if its a heavy document it takes very long to print. crazy crazy crazy beyond!!!!!!!!!!! the printer system in Ventura is soooooooo messed up its crazy. I just cant believe this from apple.

I am having a similar issue with Ricoh printers at work and printing booklets from Ventura (multiple Macbooks tested). The A4 Booklet preset will not save/remember the A3 paper size we have chosen and defaults to A4 which makes an A5 booklet, it also won't remember staple settings requiring us to change both before every print job. It has added a lot of extra work to an already busy time of year.
