Hey forums,

I had to remove this iMac (L2015, running 12.6.2) from my account in order to enable Advanced Data Protection. Since removing it, my other devices on my account have begun to nag me to reset my password. Curious, right?

On this iMac, I am nagged that I need to "update apple id settings". Obviously, this is not possible since 12.6.2 is no longer supported on my account because I've enabled Advanced Data Protection. Either way, I try to log in and thus begins the endless for loop.

I know I can't log back in but I can't completely log out either.

So my question is.... where does macos store the credentials file? I'm assuming i can just delete it, log out, log back in and this imac will be completely detached from my apple id. If not, how do I log out without flatlining the current macos user? I just need to be able to log out, i don't want to delete the user and start over.

Thanks

iMac

Hi xdracco,

Being unable to sign out of your Apple ID due to the option being grayed out indicates that a restriction is enabled in Screen Time. Check out how to disable the Preference Restrictions here:

1) Open System Preferences

2) Select Screen Time in the left pane

3) Select Content & Privacy

4) Click Preference Restrictions

5) Ensure Allow Account Changes is enabled

If the issue is unrelated to restrictions, then reach out to Apple Support directly to help investigate the behavior. They'll be best equipped to help isolate and resolve the issue. You can use the following link to reach out: Contact Apple Support

Kind regards.

The " Devil is in the Details " .

Refer to link below

Advanced Data Protection for iCloud - Apple Support (CA)

Below is an excerpt from that same link above

  • Devices where the user is signed in with their Apple ID must be updated to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2,

>>>> ➡️ macOS 13.1, <<<<<< tvOS 16.2, watchOS 9.2, and the latest version of iCloud for Windows. This requirement prevents a previous version of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, or watchOS from mishandling the newly-created service keys by re-uploading them to the available-after-authentication HSMs in a misguided attempt to repair the account state.
