How to reply to a specific message in a conversation ?

I have iPhone 7, OS 15.71

I want to reply to a specific message in a conversation. I tried to follow the instructions given here:

Reply to specific messages on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

With some conversations, the above instructions work perfectly.

But with other conversations, when I tap and hold the speech bubble, I only see the following options:

  • Copy, or Translate, or More...
  • If I now tap "More...", I get 2 options: Bin, or an arrow pointint to the RIGHT (not to the left)
  • When I tap that arrow, I get the text of the tapped message, with a blank box at top with "To:" So this is clearly a way to FORWARD a message to a new person

What's the difference between those messages that I can reply to, and the messages where I can't reply? Is it possible that the sender has selected a "No reply" option (as in some emails)?

Thanks

iPhone 7
