Previously deleted iCloud email address has started receiving new emails

Apologies in advance if this question has been answered - I could not find it in the search.

I have an old .Mac address (from 2012) that I deactivated and removed many years ago.

In the last week it has now begun to receive dozens of spam messages per day, all coming to my iCloud account.

TBC- that address does not have an account on any of my devices and is not available in iCloud email account preferences.

But when I check whom the emails are sent to- it is the old address.

thanks in advance!

No need to apologize :)

These two eMail addresses are synced. So, delete the inactive eMail address, and all will go to you.

  1. Go here: Stop Using, Reactivate, or Delete a Hide My Email Address on iCloud.com - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Delete an inactive address
  3. Proceed from there as necessary

As it Reads...

Important: Deleting an address created with Hide My Email is permanent, and it’s deleted on all your devices set up for Hide My Email. You cannot reactivate the address.

You are welcome.

Contact Apple Support:

Ask Apple why this is is occurring. It should not, being the eMail was closed long ago. There seems to be a conflict.

Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

Hi, thanks for the prompt response.

I should clarify- this was an email account alias (one of the 5) which I deactivated and deleted many years ago.

It was never used as part of Hide My Email or any other more recent feature.

It has somehow reappeared 1 wk ago.

It does not exist in any of the 5 available aliases in iCloud accounts or Hide My Email.

thanks again!
