Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.
You should be able to sync your Google contacts as long as they are still available to you. Since you are on iOS 12, this page will help: Use other contact accounts on iPhone.
"Use your Google contacts
- Go to Settings
> Passwords & Accounts. - Tap Google, sign in to your account, then turn on Contacts."
You may need to check with Gmail Help if your contacts aren't available.
