My Apple Watch will not update

My Apple Watch will not update. It keeps stalling. Is it too old to update? It’s a 3 series.

Hello there tierra30,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. To update to watchOS 9, you'd need an Apple Watch Series 4 or later, and an iPhone that supports iOS 16. Your watch isn't compatible with iOS 9, so you should be able to update to the latest watchOS version that it can use. Follow the steps from the Apple Support article to get updated: Update your Apple Watch

Update directly on your Apple Watch
If your Apple Watch has watchOS 6 or later, you can install updates without your iPhone:
1.Make sure that your watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
2.On your watch, open the Settings app.
3.Tap General > Software Update.
4.Tap Install if a software update is available, then follow the onscreen instructions.

And if you some additional troubleshooting steps:

1.Make sure that your Apple Watch is connecting properly to its charger
2.Restart your Apple Watch.
3.Restart your paired iPhone.
4.Try again to update your Apple Watch.
If the update won't start:
1.Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
2.Tap General > Software Update.
3.Delete the update file.
4.Try again to update your Apple Watch.

Let us know if you have any questions.

We hope this helps you.
