Hello Emighgoddess,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see you have some questions about your iPhone and using purchased music as a ringtone. There are a few different options we can look into, based on what you're trying to do.

If you have a purchased ringtone already, through iTunes, the following link can help with that: Use tones and ringtones with your iPhone or iPad

If you have a song that wasn't purchased as a ringtone, which sounds like may be happening, you would want to import it into GarageBand first: Import a song from the Music app into GarageBand for iPhone

1) To import the entire song, set the length of the song section to Automatic; otherwise, only the portion of the song that fits the current song section is imported.
2) To get a list of tracks, tap the Tracks button Tracks button.
3) Tap the Loop Browser button Loop Browser button in the control bar, then tap Music.
4) You can search for songs by name, or browse by album, artist, genre, or playlist.
5) To preview a song, tap it in the list. You can control the preview volume with the slider at the bottom of the list.
6) Drag a song left or right to show Tracks view. Align the left edge of the song with the bar or beat on the ruler where you want it to start playing.

Once that is done, there are a few steps within the following article that can walk through how to set it as a ringtone: Create a ringtone of your Logic Pro or GarageBand for Mac song.

Let us know if any of that helps,.

Regards.
