Timer does not ring and how it is related to screen Auto-Lock

Timer does not ring when the Auto-Lock is set to equal time. Without touching the screen after setting timer.

So, this is more of an information than a question. Altough I have many questions, like for example why cannot I add a number at the beginning of a number when I am dialing to someone? You never dialed to someone abroad and had to change the number to +49 ... ? Why is my snooze always 9 minutes?

Sorry, back to the case.

I have seen many issues like that (timer not ringing) and I want to deliver a workaround to you. If my Auto-Lock is set to 5 minutes and I set my timer for 5 minutes and do not touch the phone - timer does not ring. The screen is turning off at the same time that alarm should ring. It just does nothing.

It was tested on multiple Apple devices. After drinking my tea much to bitter and not being able to eat my boiled eggs with runny eggyolk I had to investigate.

Apple please fix that.

Hey kropczunia,

First, let's address calling international numbers. You can easily add the "+" when needing to reach someone in another country or region. See Make a call on iPhone, it has the following and more.

  • Enter a “+” for international calls: Touch and hold the “0” key until “+” appears.

Next, for the timer and the Auto-Lock screen set for the same time, you should still hear the alarm sound. Have you tested a timer using a different amount of time? Such as 5 minutes and 15 seconds to see if you hear the alarm after the display locks? Is your iPhone updated to iOS 16.2 that was recently released by Apple? Update iPhone or iPad

Snooze minutes can't be changed. But if you would like to leave feedback for Apple, you can do that by going to Product Feedback - Apple.

Take care!

Hello Dorain1,

thank you for your input. I, in fact, am familiar with the concept of dialing a number and calling. It comes to my attention you did not understand my issues.

If you would try to call the number for example 123 456 789, imagine you copied that number from some website and you are trying to call customer support.

Then you realize, hey, I am trying to call a number in another country I should put a country code before 123 ... . It is not possible once you pasted the number above the dialing number-keyboard. It does not work to just point your finger in front of the number 1 to add the country code. You have to redo the whole number. There is no other choice. I end up going to other app and pasting the number and then adding for example "+49" to "123 456 789" to get in total the whole number I want to dial which would be in this case "+49 123 456 789".

Yes, the timer does audibly ring if I set it to 5 minutes and 15 seconds. But I am expecting from it to function flawlessly. iPhone is an expensive product. If I have not gotten it for free from a telephone company and paid the full price I would be deeply dissappointed. It is uncomfortable for me, that I have to give it a thought. "Oh hey, I have to set timer to more than 5 minutes because otherwise it will not ring and my tea will be bitter". Hence this post.

I left feedback for Apple on the website you linked.

I hope this will help you to help me further.

Regards and merry Christmas!
