If I purchased a imac 5 from a thrift store and it is requesting for a restore, time machine, or original account info., how do I get around it?

There is no such Mac as an iMac 5.
It obviously wasn't prepared for resale according to this Apple document: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac - Apple Support
About the only thing you can do at this point is to take it into Apple Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider. You will need proof of ownership or they won't touch it. Not sure if the thrift shop receipt would qualify. All you can do is try.
If you can take it back to the Thrift Shop for a refund I'd do it and get a refurbished Mac from either Apple or OWC (MaSales.com).
