I connected a second drive to my iMac for additional Time Machine back ups of files not included in my ongoing daily backs. Time Machine won't let me have different back up options on a second drive. Instead it defauits all options to be the same on both drives.

You got the right solution to your problem. CCC has a steeper learning curve than Time Machine (because TM need little user feedback) but, as you're finding out, is more versatile. It's just not version orientated like Time Machine.
I downloaded a trial version of CCC and am working on it right now. It's not as intuitive as Time Machine so I've been watching tutorials and messaging tech support. But it does look like CCC will be the answer and I totally appreciate your quick response and for turning me on to the app. Thanks!

Correct. As far as I know, there is no choice.

You're welcome. There may be sync apps that will but since I don't use any I can't say for sure. You'll have to see if someone else responds.
