why would I want to do this?

I thought this bluetooth connection might be required to get the Continuity Camera on the iPhone to work. (its not)

that said, the Continuity Camera does not work when the iPhone is connected via an official Apple USB-C to lighting cable either... so maybe I have a different problem going on.

Like I said can't connect 2 Apples device together unless your tetheirng.

I see no mention of connecting two apple device via bluetooth in order to use this Continuity Camera: Use iPhone as a webcam for Mac - Apple Support

no other bluetooth issues (on either device)

they see each other & will get pairing code but they never truly connect. Eventually get an iOS error where it states "Paring Unsuccessfull" (my MacBook Pro) is not supported OK or similar & remove device.

OS is are current, the MacBook can see the iPhone connected via a USB cable (& its trusted)

the iPhone and MacBook are on the same AppleID

~/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.bluetoothuserd.plist (detete & restart)

there is no VPN connections

iOS > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings

the MacBook can connected via the iPhone's personal hotspot via WiFi no problem but I read somewhere to change the iOS "Personal Hotspot" password and try again to connect the two devices via Bluetooth. (no luck, same problem. I could successfully connect via the iOS Personal hotspot but bluetooth the devices again)

am I left with

Reset All Settings on the iPhone iOS and try again ?

Is there anything else I could try / check on/in MacOS ?

That is correct you can't pair two Apple via bluetooth unless you're tethering.

You are correct, I do see only this in the article

"Your iPhone and Mac must be near each other and have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on."

& it does not specifically state they need to be connected via bluetooth for it to work

Again you can't connect 2 Apple device together via bluetooth unless your tethering. If you're stuck on the word tethering it means this How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Yes, can I use my Personal Hotspot on my iPhone to connect to the internet on my MacBook. No problem. So if bluetooth connection is not my problem getting the Continuity Camera to work, I need to go figure out what is. (hotspot is not on), its stable (on the new Belkin macbook mount), it is just not showing up... very odd
