How can you fine / coarse tune preset keyboards and synths?

When I first got myself a midi keyboard controller and started writing piano music, I was able to add a coarse and fine tuner slider to the standard Steinway Grand Piano sound font within Garageband, which has worked wonderfully for me in my composition efforts, but I cannot seem to replicate the process. I would like to be able to add a coarse and fine tune knob to other synths if possible.

I believe I was able to do this with a plugin, like I would search through the list and find "fine tune," then I would just add it to the keyboard, but I cannot seem to find it now, so I may be mistaken about that. Alternatively, I could put a pitch shift modifier on the track and shift it up in post, but I prefer the tuning knobs because I still hear the detuned piano through my midi keyboard controller.

Does anybody know how to replicate this? I am on a Macbook pro, using Garageband version 10.4.3

Hi there AniFaulscabek,

We can provide some information about how to add effect or instrument plug-ins with GarageBand on your Mac.

You can use Audio Units plug-ins in your GarageBand projects to add new sounds and effects. Some Audio Units may be installed on your computer, and many more are available from other sources. You can buy Audio Units plug-ins from a variety of third-party vendors, and can find free Audio Units plug-ins on the Internet.
There are two types of Audio Units plug-ins you can use in your projects:
- Effect plug-ins: These include common audio effects such as reverb, compressors, delays, and other unique effects. You can use Audio Units effect plug-ins on individual tracks and on the master track.
- Instrument plug-ins: These include pianos, organs, synthesizers and other keyboards, and other instruments. You can use Audio Units instrument plug-ins on software instrument tracks only.

You'll find these details here: Use Audio Units plug-ins with GarageBand on Mac
