Password protection

While I was setting up my new iPad, and concentrating on the setup instructions, a small message appeared at the top of the screen that said something about my passwords having been possibly involved with a data breach, or something like that. The message disappeared so quickly I didn’t have time to completely read it or tap on it. I don’t know what it was talking about or where to go to retrieve it or address it. (It seems to me that a message of that significance should be left on the screen more than a few seconds). Anyone have an idea of what to do about this?

The message/alert that you observed is not necessarily an indication of something untoward or sinister - but may indeed be something that you do need to verify/check and correct…


Perhaps you were transferring your data and settings from an old to new iPad - or having setup the iPad “as new” have synchronised your existing iCloud Keychain (Password) with you new device. Your iPad will automatically alert you of account credentials/passwords that have been potentially compromised through a data-breach, or are unsafe for a variety of reasons.


From iPad settings, check you stored passwords:

Settings > Passwords > Security Recommendations


Here you will find details of Passwords that may have been potentially compromised for which action is recommended - or Passwords that are otherwise considered unsafe.
