Photos markup feature "add Text" not working

Hello everyone,

Hardware: iPad Pro (2022) with Magic Keyboard, iOS 16.2

Prior to iOS 16, I could add text on top of any photo in any color, following these steps:

  1. Photo > Edit
  2. Select markup (“pen” tool)
  3. Tap the +
  4. Select “Text”
  5. Choose color, format, even text size, and type…

Since iOS 16, I get a text block, but it’s unselectable and therefore uneditable.

I spent an hour troubleshooting with Apple senior tech support. We verified it is not a hardware issue because you can access this same tool in Notes and it works there. In Photos, it only works when the iPad is detached from the Magic Keyboard and I use the on-screen keyboard.

Any ideas from smarter-than-me iPad or iPhone users out there would be really appreciated, it is a feature I use regularly. I’ve had to resort to scribbling with my fat finger.
