how do i backup Documents to iCloud without using iCloud drive?

Thanks. I was hoping I could do it without putting all my files on the Cloud. Using the drive means I always have to be connected to the Internet to utilize my Documents. I want to be able to be free of the Internet other than backups.

You can sync documents using iCloud Drive. You can further enable desktop and documents to sync items in those locations.
Your documents remain on your computer. Any changes that you make will sync with iCloud whenever you're connected. Otherwise, all of your files are available offline.
