For both iPadOS15 and iPadOS16 - to easily return the new Floating Keyboard to the normal on-screen keyboard presentation, use the two-finger “zoom” gesture (i.e., the reverse of the two-finger “pinch”).
If the Split Keyboard is restored instead of the full on-screen keyboard, you can either use two fingers (one on each of the two half-keyboards) and swipe the two halves together - or touch-and-hold the “keyboard” key, then slide your finger to the Merge & Dock option and release.

The problem isn’t getting the floating keyboard back to normal it’s getting the normal keyboard to change to the floating keyboard. The two finger punch doesn’t work
To access the floating keyboard, touch-and-hold the keyboard key at bottom right of the on-screen keyboard - then slide your finger to “Floating” button.
I touched and held the keyboard button on the keyboard, I see the down arrow but when I hold it it takes me back to the text box and never shows me the floating keyboard option
I just turned the iPad I off and on, tried it again and it worked! Thank you
You are very welcome. I’m delighted that the problem has been successfully resolved.
