past contact labels

I understand that using iPhone default email accounts other than iCloud or Gmail will and DO trash custom labels in my contacts. Having reentered labels many times only to lose them again and again, where can I find previous versions of my contacts labels? I seem to see only my current contacts when I look in the iCloud backups. Using iPhone 12 PRO always current now with IOS 16.2

Hi cesargpsfromlittleton,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you'd like to restore a previous version of your contacts. This article can help with restoring contacts stored in iCloud: Restore contacts stored in iCloud on iCloud.com.

"

You can restore your contacts from an earlier version that was automatically archived in iCloud. For example, you might want to restore an earlier version of your contacts to recover some that were accidentally deleted.

When you restore an earlier version, your current version is first archived in iCloud, so if you change your mind, you can go back to it.

  1. On iCloud.com, click the App Launcher button in the toolbar, then click Data Recovery.
  2. Click Restore Contacts.
  3. Available versions are listed by the date and time they were archived.
  4. To the right of the version you want to restore, click Restore.
  5. There may be more versions than can be displayed. Scroll to see them all.
  6. Note: Wait until iCloud finishes restoring your contacts before you change them. During the restore process, any changes you make aren’t saved.

"

Take care.
