Number of vertical lines for a diagram

Hi,

I have a diagram for the exchange rate US$ to EURO.

It has datapoints for every day, but it should show the date and the vertical line only every 2 weeks.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this.

Numbers will only allow me to define the steps for the text / date in X-direction.

But for the vertical lines I have only 2 options: A) Show all 365 lines or B) Show no vertical lines

Has anyone found a setting for this?

Currently I create 2 diagrams and move them to the same position, it looks right but it is more work.

I'm testing with a much simpler chart than yours (and I'm using 7-day intervals instead of two weeks) but I think you can control that by playing with the number of Major (and Minor) Steps in the Value(X) tab and setting Minor Gridlines to None.

Of course, then you the date for each day is not displayed (but that would probably be cluttered anyway).

BTW, using a 2D Scatter here with Connection lines turned on and Data Symbol under Style set to None.

Hi SG,

I know that I could set the limits for the diagram, but that solution will not work for me.

All diagrams in my summary will update daily, therefore I would have to set the limits as soon as I want to review the data.

Shown is always the range for the last 365 days, therefore fixed limits are no option.

If I could reference a cell as the upper / lower limit of this diagram it would be an option. But unfortunately Numbers will not allow this.

Looks like I have to stay with the current solution, until somebody at Apple will add this option to the diagram settings.

It took some trial-and-error, but I think I have succeeded in achieving what you want, or something very close to it:

The final "trick" was to enter values in the Min: and Max: boxes in a date format that my region would recognize. As in my example, that format may not always be the same as displayed in the chart.

As I find every time a do a chart in Numbers, a wide range of customization is possible, more than I sometimes assume. But it's not always clear how to proceed. Hence the trial-and-error.

Hi SG,

thanks that could solve one issue.

But unfortunately it will create a new issue / something that I don't like.

The data for this example go from Dec. 1, 2022 until Nov. 17, 2022.

But the date in the diagram goes from Dec. 2, 2022 until Nov. 16, 2022 :-( I payed around, but could not find anything to have my diagram matching the dates in my table.
