iPad 2017 becoming slow

I love my iPad but I do appreciate all things get old. My iPad is becoming slow at times with occasional shut downs for no apparent reason or simply slow to start when switched on.

it has occurred to me that a possible solution is to remove everything from my iPad and then reload from my iCloud back up.

Would appreciate everyone’s thought on this idea or other possible solutions.

Thanks folks

MichelPM brings up some great points, especially regarding the free storage space. If it's low, iOS has limited working space and things will slow down and the iPad will exhibit the symptoms you describe.

A complete wipe and restore of your iPad may indeed help if your storage is under control and it's definitely worth a try. Having the iCloud backup will help immensely although sometimes settings for the OS and apps may get corrupted causing the same issue when that backup is restored to the device.

In this case a complete wipe of the iPad (without restoring the backup) should be tested to see if it resolves your slowdowns and shutdowns.

If this resolves your issues, then restore your backup. Do the issues return after restoring the backup? If so, then the issue is in the backup (or the size of the backup and it's effect on the total storage space used) and you'll want to reinstall all your apps and data. Not easy and very time consuming.

Can you, please, confirm what year and model iPad do you have/own?

The “A” model number can be found on the aluminium back of your iPad, in very small print, right under the larger bold print “iPad” on the back of the iPad.

AND/OR

Supply the “M” model number, which can be found in the Settings app, under the General settings panel, then tap About.

What iOS/iPadOS version is this iPad, currently, running?

What is the rated, internal data storage space/capacity of your iPad model and how much of this free, internal data storage capacity is left inside of your iPad model?

All of that additional info can, also, be found in the Settings app, General settings panel, About.

Your iPad needs sufficient free internal data storage space. At the very least, between 3- 6 GBs or greater internal, free data storage space.
