“Phonetic” or “Pronunciation”?

Has anyone figured out what the difference between the phonetic- and pronunciation- fields are in the contacts app? Neither one has successfully changed the way Siri pronounces names for me, and I’ve read 5 articles that all explain it differently.

When I add a “phonetic” name field, it makes it visible in my contacts, so I’m assuming that’s for me to remember how to pronounce someone’s name.

But adding a similar spelling in the “pronunciation” field has done exactly ZERO to fix Siri’s pronunciation. Has anyone seen this function actually work?

APPLE: This change is super frustrating and glitchy! Please respond and fix it! Please bring back the sample pronunciation options when teaching Siri to pronounce names! It actually worked.
