Quicktime Desktop Playback Jumpy with Avid DNxHD Codec in Monterey on M1 Max MacBook Pro

Hey all, I'm working in post production and I work with a lot of Quicktime files.

I view them in 2 ways. Mainly from within a Pro Tools session but often from the desktop.

A while back there were issues with desktop quicktime playback and that got solved by using Quicktime 7 rather than whatever the new version was at the time. I just used QT7 and never looked back.

Now that I have upgraded to an M1 system I'm finding myself wrestling with this issue again. QT7 will not launch in Monterey and QuickTime Player v10.5 seems to be having an issue with my files.

The files use the Avid DNxHD Codec and I believe I have the codec installed as I can see the image.

The file opens and I can see it and play it but it keeps trying to jump to full screen whether it's playing or not When it jumps it fills most of the screen with all black.

My system is a MacBook Pro 14 with the M1 Max Chip - 10 Core CPU and 24 Core GPU and 32 Gigs of Ram - Mac OS 12.6.2

Attached is the inspector window.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Installing 12.6.2 didn't fix it. But I deleted all the files in Library > Quickitme and re installed the Avid Codecs (https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/en423319) and then the (Pro Video Formats 2.2.4) from apple site and the problem went away. So QuickTime on the Desktop is working normally now. Note - After deleting those files picture would still show and play back in Pro Tools but the session was responding very weird. Once those files were reinstalled Pro Tools was back to normal.

I wish I could upload a clip but our projects NDA prohibits that. I've used VLC before. IINA looks pretty sweet so thanks for that recommendation. I like the look of it better than VLC so I'll probably work with that for now. I just wish QuickTime functioned properly.

Side note - I moved the file to my wife's laptop, OS 12.6.1 and installed the ProVideoFormats from apples site (Pro Video Formats 2.2.4) and the Avid Codecs from Avid's site (https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/en423319) and now if I try to play the video, or even get info on it, her system goes black and restarts.

Updating to 12.6.2 to see if it helps.
