Grey space bar at bottoms of Home Screen

A grey space bar has appeared at the bottom of my mother’s XR in the last few days. How do I get rid of it?

That's the dock, but apparently there are no apps in the dock.

You can't remove the dock, but you can make it more purposeful by adding apps you use most often, such as Camera, Phone, Mail, Messages, etc., to dock.

Hold your finger on any app till a dialog box opens and choose Edit Home Screen. Then slide any app you'd like to be shown in the dock to the dock and they'll stay there.
