MBP 2018, Monterey, Razer Core X

Hi All

I have just got an eGPU setup of a Razer Core X with an RX 6800XT, compatible according to Razer, I can confirm its all working as I have had my Razer laptop hooked up to it working fine. Getting some odd behaviour on the mac though.

The eGPU fires up when plugged in, and the mac pings to say its charging, however the chip icon does not appear in the menu bar.

I checked the system information, it appears in display (external gpu, PCIe), and under Thunderbolt displaying....

Vendor Name: Razer

  Device Name: Core X

  Mode: Thunderbolt 3

  Device ID: 0x1

  Vendor ID: 0x127

  Device Revision: 0x1

  UID: 0x0127294430782300

  Route String: 1

  Firmware Version: 33.1

  Port (Upstream):

  Status: Device connected

  Link Status: 0x2

  Speed: Up to 40Gb/s x1

  Current Link Width: 0x2

  Link Controller Firmware Version: 0.35.0

Oddly when I unplug it I also get a notification bubble saying "eject properly", however I don't get this everytime.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is this a Monterey isssue maybe, should I roll back to Big Sur or other?

Many thanks in advance

Hello Srednuas27,

Use an external graphics processor with your Mac mentions some functionality that may not be fully supported for this particular model.

"Full USB functionality is not supported on the card’s USB-C port. Connect displays to the DisplayPort and HDMI ports on the card. If you connect a display to the USB-C port on the card, your display may experience issues when waking from sleep."
