Hi Seanbr1cker,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to activate your new phone number with iMessage.

We do see that your menu bar displays SOS which indicates you may not have a connection to your cellular network in order to activate your phone number in iMessage. We want to be sure that you can make and receive calls on your iPhone so that you can also enable iMessage: If you see No Service, Searching, or SOS on your iPhone or iPad

Once you're sure that your cellular network is connected with your iPhone, if you're still unable to activate iMessage, check out the additional troubleshooting steps outlined here to help isolate this behavior further: If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime

"Still not activated after a day?

It might take up to 24 hours to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If the issue continues after 24 hours, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  2. If you're using an iPhone, contact your carrier to make sure that you can send and receive SMS messages.
  3. Make sure you can send and receive SMS. If a prompt appears stating "Your carrier may charge for SMS messages used to activate FaceTime and iMessage", tap "OK" to allow possible SMS charges.
  4. Contact Apple Support."

We hope this helps you.

Take care!
