AppleTV 4K and Multiple User’s AirPods

I have several 4K AppleTVs in the house, and I just got my wife a pair of new AirPod Pros for Christmas. Her AirPods do not show up as a device connection option for any of the televisions when she opens up her case, while mine do. My AppleID is the primary on all of the devices, and her AppleID is authenticated as an additional user on every device. How do I get her headphones recognized when her profile is selected?

Pair the second set of earbuds through the Bluetooth settings. Once paired, they’ll be remembered for a next time.

To use both sets at the same time, first connect one set, then add the second set through the first set:

Share audio from Apple TV 4K with a second pair of headphones - Apple Support

For private watching, you can send audio from an Apple TV 4K to up to two pairs of compatible Apple wireless headphones, such as AirPods or Powerbeats Pro.
Note: Sharing audio is not supported on Apple TV HD. For more information on which headphones are supported, see the Apple Support article Share audio with AirPods or Beats headphones.
1. Press and hold the TV button  on the Siri Remote to open Control Center.
2. Select the Audio Controls button .
3. Navigate to headphones, then select the headphones you want to use.
If you don’t see your headphones, follow the instructions in Find and connect to a nearby Bluetooth device.
4. Select Share Audio, then follow the onscreen instructions to pair the second pair of headphones.

Hello Blitherakt,

Is the Apple ID for her iPhone, the one signed in on the Apple TV for her account? Because it sounds like the Apple TV or Apple TV account is using a different Apple ID than her iPhone, which is where the AirPods are paired with. On her device: Settings > [Your name] > Apple ID is under the picture and her name.

Or are you in her account or the Apple TV signed in with her Apple ID the first time at least you try to pair them with the AirPods?

Sign in Apple ID

Thanks.

Thanks; that’s what I’ve done on the one TV and I wasn’t sure if I missed something. I’ll submit a feature request to unify the experiences. The experience for the non-primary user is pretty awful.

As a primary my Apple audio devices Just Work, but as a secondary I have to manually pair everything and lose the ability to open the headphones to use on the iPad or iPhone without hijacking the TV’s audio.

Thanks for the help, everybody!
