Apple Watch Ultra: workout app weird bug - cannot set upper limit for pace range

When trying to select a pace range in the Workout app in the Apple Watch Ultra, it only allows me to do so in the "Lower limit". When I select "Upper Limit", the options are blank. The curious thing is that this worked before, but now it is stuck like that.

I have tried rebooting the watch, removing the pace range, trying to create a different, custom workout but nothing works. I did not try unpair/resetting the watch given the hassle of redownloading music etc. - any ideas?

Hello MLeonardi,

Thank you for posting to the Apple Support Communities.

Please try the following troubleshooting steps before trying to change the pace range again:

  1. Restart your Apple Watch.
  2. Update your Apple Watch.
  3. Calibrate your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy.

If you continue to notice the same issue, please contact Apple Support directly for more help.

Cheers!

Hey ML,

Just checked out the functionality on my Ultra. You are right in that there is a software glitch with the range functionality. In my case, I can set the upper limit from a selection of values provided however the numbers don't make sense. I only see three random values for upper limit. Assuming that these may not be as random but based on your prior runs. I will suggest ( and I'm going to try the same) to go for a few runs and then check if the limit variables change for you. Good Luck!

I have been having this same issue, except my upper limit only shows 3:00 - 3:40 per mile, depending on what my lower limit is. For some reason, moving the lower limit to 8:30 caps it at 3:20 and setting the upper limit to 12:50 gives me up to 3:40 on the upper limit. I have tried unpairing and restoring from backup, but that leaves the glitch in place. I have tried unpairing and setting up as a brand new watch, but that still leaves the glitch in place.

Since Apple refuses to give us access to do a fresh watchOS install, it seems like this will be here to stay for anyone this affects until watchOS 9.2.x or 9.3 is released. Maybe your watch will behave differently, but it doesn't look good from what I've tried.

I have this too, but I have found a workaround to it, although twice it worked straight away, the other times it took 2 or 3 attempts.

Anyway the work around I am using is to change the pace alert to be a target instead of a range and then set the target pace to be what you want the upper limit to be. Then back out of alerts, go back in, change target back to range and it should have set both the upper and lower limit to whatever you set as the target pace. You can then change the lower limit to whatever you need.

As I said, sometimes it works straight away, others it takes a few attempts, but I have always got it to work

Hope that helps
