Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities sall80,

We can certainly understand your concern and can help provide some insight.

There is a possibility the carrier has assigned you a new number when setting up your eSIM. We recommend checking out these links for more information on how to setup eSIM and check your warranty status to determine if the system is new and correctly setup.

  1. Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support ( This should give you a pretty close date on when the device was activated to determine if its used or new)
  2. About eSIM on iPhone - Apple Support ( This should explain more on activating your eSIM and the possibly of being provided a new number. If so you will need to contact the carrier to transfer your old number to your new eSIM)

These steps will help ensure your device is working with ease and can help answer common questions like the ones you’re experiencing.

Kindest regards!
