My phone got really hot all of a sudden and turned off. it took about an hour to cool down and even after I put it by the window to cool down it would heat back up. Then eventually it cooled down and now it doesn't charge, go into recovery mode or connect to iTunes. there wasn't anything hot near the phone and the room was at a moderate temperature.
