Screen Time + Roblox issue in macOS

I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else has experienced this issue. When my son's screentime comes to an end, and he's playing Roblox on his Mac Mini, if he requests for additional time, his screen will start to flip rapidly between Roblox and the screentime "time out" screen, creating a glitching effect. I understand that Screentime seems to be intended for iOS & iPadOS, so our millage may vary when utilizing for Mac applications. One semi work around we've found is when the "time out" screen comes up, he gets his iPad and requests it from that, which in turn will open up his mac mini again. Admittedly I would say this has only worked successfully for us about 70% of the time. Of course what I usually do is simply tell him to shut down the device when I feel he's had enough time. I'm honestly just more curious if anyone else has come across this glitch and if any solutions have been found. Thanks!

Hi Soosie_J215,

Thanks for the reply! We actually did try resetting Screen Time, as well as testing out other apps. It does seem to only be Roblox that is affected. During my research though, I have come across a solution that appears to fix the issue. The “glitching” effect happens when he is in full screen in Roblox. If he minimizes the screen before requesting more time from the time out screen, then everything operates as intended.

Hello aabelcher,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand you have an interesting issue with Screen Time on your son's Mac mini. First, have you tried to turn Screen Time off on his Mac, then turn it back on?

Sometimes this will help reset it to help resolve issues. Work through the steps from this article: Use Screen Time on your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences (System Settings), then click Screen Time.
  2. Click Options in the lower-left corner.
  3. Click Turn Off.
  4. Restart the Mac mini.
  5. Go back through System Preferences (System Settings) to turn it back on.

Test it to see if the same issue occurs. Also take note if that specific issue is just when he's playing Roblox, or any other app you've set Screen Time for. We look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards.
