I want to upload my desktop onto icloud but it doesn't let me

I want to upload my desktop onto icloud but it says" You have too many files, too many files in a single folder, or too many nested folders in your Documents or Desktop folders."

how have you dealt with this before?

Select the unwanted folders ( use command and A ) keys , right click on them and move to bin , same way with files , another way is create a folder in finder > icloud section , club all files in a single folder and delete the folder see the article Organise files in folders on Mac - Apple Support

Accessing "Desktop and Documents" in iCloud:

Go Here: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support. Being enabled, you can go here to download it: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive

Always secure your Mac and its iCloud data see the steps in the article Set up your Mac to be secure - Apple Support

Always turn on iCloud Drive and desktops and documents , you can browse all iCloud data from another browser by signing with your secured Apple ID account Security and your Apple ID - Apple Support at www.icloud.com
