Here's what worked for me: Go to Settings>Keyboard>Text Replacements... on your Mac (Ventura in my case), "select all", right-click and 'Export' the list to your desktop/downloads (wherever you like). Now, delete all of them.

Right click again and 'Import' the list you just exported. This immediately sent all of them back to my phone.

I tried this after realizing that when I created a new text replacement on my iPhone, it immediately showed up on my MacBook. I then created one on my MacBook that immediately showed up on my iPhone. So, after weeks of frustration, I now have all my (years worth of) text replacements back on my iPhone. Thanks Apple..... 🤨

I thought Text Replacement were lost because they were gone after Reset of my primary device and then Restored from iCloud Backup; but I now found my secondary device (with same ID ) also lost existing Text Replacements; this second device was never restored from Backup I did for my primary device.

Does iCloud backup Text Replacements? Shouldn’t a device keep Text Replacements when other devices lost them? I have been using secondary device as fail-save strategy in case primary device fails; is this unrealistic?

Hello SunnyInToronto,

Those are great questions! This article explains what is included in both iCloud backups and computer backups: Backup methods for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. In a nutshell, if any information on an Apple device is being stored in iCloud or online (such as email), the information isn’t included in either.

Save keystrokes with text replacements on iPhone - Apple Support -- Text replacement can reside either on the device, or synced through iCloud. Unless you had to physically add each text replacement on both devices, you were probably using iCloud to sync them which means they were not backed up.

At this point, we recommend contacting Apple Support to see if they can be recovered: Get Support

Wishing you well, take care.
