How do you exit an iMessage "reply" without having to close the app?

Every time I use the reply feature to a specific message, I can't figure out how exit that message without force-quitting the app. Is there any way return to my full iMessage list?

The back arrow does not appear on my screen. The only thing there is the pic/info of the person I reply to. I have the latest update iOS and an iPhone 12 Pro
