Cannot take screenshots and another couple issues

All of a sudden, I can’t take screenshots on my iPad Pro. I’ve also got a mini keyboard when I have always had the keyboard to fit the screen and I can’t switch my iPad off by pressing the top button and volume button, where it should bring up the slider. Can anyone else help? Have tried all the suggestions on Apple but no go.

Cheers!

You are very welcome.

Your additional description suggests that your iPad’s top (sleep/wake) button has failed.

It is a common misconception that an iPad (or iPhone) can remain fully functional with damaged or defective physical buttons.  Whilst Accessibility features (such as assistive touch) can be used to augment the User Interface, these features cannot be used as a substitute for physical button sequences that must be used to trigger system recovery actions. Sooner or later, you may encounter a situation from which you cannot recover.

You might be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad. If repair is required, you’ll be in the best possible place to explore your available options:

As you have an iPad Pro, I presume that you have updated to iPadOS 16.2 - this being the most recent version of iPadOS.

If you have enabled Stage Manager, this being a new feature of iPadOS16, the finger corner-swipe Screenshot and QuickNote gestures are not available while Stage Manager is enabled. The corner-swipe gestures remain accessible using an Apple Pencil.

Otherwise, Screenshots can still be triggered using the physical buttons:

As for the mini “floating” keyboard, you can easily return to the normal on-screen keyboard presentation using the two-finger “zoom” gesture (i.e., the reverse of the two-finger “pinch”).

If the Split Keyboard is restored instead of the full on-screen keyboard, you can either use two fingers (one on each of the two half-keyboards) and swipe the two halves together - or touch-and-hold the “keyboard” key, then slide your finger to the Merge & Dock option and release.

Finally, the easiest method to shut-down your iPad is to do so from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Shut Down

Hi! Thanks so much for your reply. I’ll be looking at these in the mornings. I also forgot to mention the only way for me to turn on n my iPad is to plug in the charger. Bit of a faff, as we say here in the UK! Any workaround on that? And, yes, I have updated to latest iOS!

also, I’ve tried the top button combo for taking screenshots but that’s not working. When I do as you indicated, the volume goes up or down but does not take any screenshots.
