After changing my Apple ID password, I no longer have icloud back-up on my MBP OS X 10.9.5

Changed Apple ID password yesterday, then lost Icloud back-up on my MBP OS X 10.9.5 bought 2012. I get error message there's a problem with my AppleID. Message directs me to resolve by entering icloud preferences which then directs me to sign into icloud using ID and password. this is successful and then I get a 6 digit code on my cell.

Problem is I don't get a placeholder on my MBP to insert the code (like 6 empty boxes).

I also get a message to add code to my password but don't know where to insert . Ive tried resigning in, adding code to my password but get error "wrong password".

Is there a location to insert my password with the 6 digit code?

Is there any remedy to allow me to restore Icloud back-up?

What Options should I pursue to provide an alternate back-up?

Thanks

MacBook Pro

Hello passwordchangednoicloud,

If you're using an old version of software that doesn't have the separate field for the verification code, then you would enter the verification code right after your password when signing in. So for example if your password is Apple and the verification code is 123456, when you sign in to your account put "Apple123456" (no space between the password and code) in the password field.

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID

Now an iCloud backup would have nothing to do with a Mac. iCloud backup is a service used to backup iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch). If you're talking about one of those devices, you would use these steps to restore a backup to it: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Cheers!

Thanks for replying passwordchangednoicloud,

We appreciate that additional info. You mentioned that you are receiving your verification code on your phone. To clarify, are you using an iPhone? If so, or you have a trusted device, you can request a verification code without entering your username and password first by following the steps here: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

We'd like to clarify the information we provided regarding iCloud and your Mac. While the settings for iCloud do allow for syncing to occur between Mail, Photos, and other features, it does not include a true backup of your Mac like you would experience with your iPhone. For example, if you got a new Mac, you could set it up as new and sync some data from iCloud but your Settings, apps, and other user data would not be included. For Mac, if you would like a complete backup of your data and the ability to restore a backup to a new device, that feature would be Time Machine backup which can be read about here: Back up your Mac with Time Machine

Thanks Jaym_8,

I have tried to add 6 digit code to the end of my password but as I said in my original statement to do this action I have to re-login then add code to password I previously received on my iphone . I then get "wrong password" error message. So still not sure how to enter the code as suffix to my password or alternate way to accomplish.

Pretty sure your input on "Now an iCloud backup would have nothing to do with a Mac" is incorrect. Mac allows you to select features like Mail, Notes... that need to sync with other devices (iphone/IPAD. Thanks again and community i still need help. It doesn't make sense that a password change would undo icloud MAC backup.
