Apple Watch Series 7 touch screen malfunctioning

At night when my watch is on the charger, I am awakened by the clicking sound made when you enter your passcode. It clicks continuously, as if someone is trying to enter random numbers to get into the watch. Could this be hackers trying to figure out my code to my watch? I can't think of any other reasons the numbers would be randomly clicking on the passcode screen.

Could there be something nearby (screen protector, etc.) that is inadvertently touching the screen? If not, the first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
