GPS Lost on iPad Pro

I note a discussion back in 2019 about the GPS stopping working on the iPad Pro’s. I have this problem in 2022 running the latest update 15.7.2 which is 50 million versions later than the versions in 2019 that had the problem so is there a known cause for this yet?

Do we have a resolution for this matter now in 2022? Does anyone know as I have the stupid problem now but did not used to have it. Last year I navigated outback Australia with the GPS on ALL my apps running perfectly on my iPad Pro. (Same Apps on iPhone as the iPad Pro used for Navigating being GAIA GPS / Memory Map and Navionics). This year I’m navigating the outback and having to use my phone to confirm accuracy as the GPS stops working and in fact hasn’t worked properly at all this trip (XMAS 2022).

I will add that I paid extra to ensure I had the one specifically with GPS knowing this is what it was going to be used for! It has worked perfectly for many years (it’s the Gen 2 model so yes quite old but still no justification for the loss of functionality considering I’ve never dropped it or given it any other form of ‘shock’).

Thank you for the reply Cluck Kent!

Does this occur in all areas or specific areas? We ask because this could be data service related:

Maps, directions, and location-based apps depend on data services. These data services are subject to change and might not be available in all geographic areas, resulting in maps, directions, or location-based information that might be unavailable, inaccurate, or incomplete.

If this occurs in all areas try removing any VPN or anti-virus apps you may have to isolate the issue. If the issue occurs after that, reach out to Apple directly to investigate:

Greetings Cluck Kent,

You can learn about location services on your Apple devices here:

About privacy and Location Services in iOS and iPadOS

"Improve GPS accuracy

GPS accuracy depends on the number of visible GPS satellites. Locating all visible satellites can take several minutes, with accuracy gradually increasing over time. To improve GPS accuracy:

  • Make sure that you've set the date, time, and time zone correctly on the device in Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
  • Keep a clear view in several directions. Walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites. When this happens, your device uses Wi-Fi or cellular networks to determine your position until the GPS satellites are visible again."

Take care.

Nope this one did nothing. I first noticed this issue around the 17th December, 2022 and saw this as the first thing to try which I did but it made no difference. This issue was ID’d by another user back in 2019 and I need to know if there has been a resolution identified for all those iPad Pro users who had this issue 3 years ago.

I have many apps that use the GPS on my iPad and none of them are working accurately so it’s definitely not an APP issue either. App updates all happen automatically so running the latest Apps etc is not a fix either!

Both my phone and Garmin Instinct watch GPS show the same location data but the iPad Pro is showing a “GREY” reticle on my mapping app and a location that is about 5km’s off!
