iPhone 12 Pro Max shut down unexpectedly with a crackling sound

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I was just using WhatsApp and my battery level was above 50%. The phone made a crackling sound (like an electrical short, it seems like this sound came from the speakers, meaning it is not really an electric short) and the the phone went off. Next minute I kept pressing the power button to turn the phone on, and then it turned on and working fine. Is this a software issue or a hardware issue? And what does apple say about this?

Thank you for the answer. Yes, I am aware of that. It wasn’t WhatsApp that stopped. It was the entire phone that shut down with the crackling sound. Also I read some content regarding this on the internet to find that this had happen to many people with IPhone 12 (including some brand new phones) whilst using various apps like TikTok, Zoom or when usually scrolling down on something. In my case this happened whilst using WhatsApp.

I wanted to find the reason why, and someone has said that this could be because of a software issue, but apple has not commented on this matter, which is why I posted this question here.
