AirDrop (Contacts Only) - my own Mac and my own iPhone

Concerning AirDrop

I am running iOS 16.2 and Ventura 13.1 (both are reported by their respective devices as having the latest available versions). Of course, the iPhone defaults to Contacts Only (because Apple nanny'd the setting so that I can't permanently enable Everyone). I'm logged in to my own Apple account on both devices. But they won't find each other on Contacts Only. I have to switch them to Everyone in order for them to find each other.

What do I need to do in order to get AirDrop to work on Contacts Only between two of my own devices that are each logged in to the same account?

Hi AudyAthy,

Do you have a contact card created for yourself? If so, make sure under Settings > Contacts, that contact card is set under "My Info".

After that, try AirDropping to your own devices again.

If they still don't see each other, ensure that your contact is populated on both devices Contacts app.

Let us know the results from there.

Cheers!

Thank you, Derek, for your response and suggested course of action. I did confirm that the same contact card is set to My Card both on my iPhone (via Settings, Contacts, My Info) and on my Mac (via Contacts app). I made no changes.

This morning, mysteriously, AirDrop is once again functioning as expected. The default status is Contacts Only and each device is able to send to the other without the need to change this status.

The only thing that I can imagine being different between the time I wrote my initial post, here, and today, is that I had not yet opened the Contacts app on my Mac since installing Ventura. Perhaps Ventura needed me to open Contacts before it would refresh whatever status it needed to in order to enable full AirDrop functionality?
