I’m going to guess your carrier is Verizon. They’ve had some sort of system glitch that causes MMS and group messaging to get turned off in their system when someone activates an iPhone 14. Generally if you call them, and you get to a tier 2 tech support person, they know how to fix it. *611 from your cell phone or 800-922-0204 from any phone.

Lawrence Finch, another user, has reported that this self-fix works for some people:

Log in to your Verizon account. Select "Account" at the top of the screen-"My Plan"-"Blocks." After selecting the appropriate line, select "block services"- then toggle on "block picture and video messaging." After saving, wait a minute or two then toggle it back to off. After everything saves, a phone restart may or may not be necessary.

Hello kbl934,

There are a great troubleshooting steps that can help with resolving issues sending and receiving text messages. Based on the description you provided, you'll want to begin with the steps listed below as they're specific to troubleshooting issues sending or receiving messages after setting up a new device. If you continue to have issues after completing these steps, you'll want to complete the remaining relevant steps outlined in the following article.

  1. "Update your device to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS if needed.
  2. In the Settings app, tap Cellular. Make sure that your phone line is turned on. If you use multiple SIMs, make sure that the phone number you want to use is selected and turned on.
  3. In the Settings app, tap Messages. Turn iMessage off and then back on.
  4. Tap Send & Receive.
  5. Tap the phone number that you want to use with Messages."

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad

Take care!

To give credit where it is due this method was actually discovered by Laner84, first published in this thread→Just got iPhone 14 — can’t text android p… - Apple Community.

A brief explanation of what is happening behind the scenes. Telephone networks have several levels of technology. The lowest level is the network, which is an interconnected set of switches that route calls. Switches have a database of every valid phone number, its features, and how to route calls to and from it. The MMS feature is one of the features that are “provisioned” (telco term) on the switch. A level up from that is a Provisioning System, technology that sends updates to the switch databases when settings on an account change. And behind that is a customer account management system that users and support teams interface with. When you make a change in the account management system that affects the features of your account (phone number) those changes are sent to the provisioning system in near real time; it then updates the network switch database. This last step is not instantaneous; switch updates are done on a schedule, so it can take a few minutes for a change entered into account management to actually reach the switch. That’s why the instructions say to wait a minute or two after each change.
