Wallpaper and text attached photos won’t display

So my patience is gone. Currently, any text message I get with a photo attached advises the sender there is a delivery error while the photo in my end fails to display. I DO get the photo icon that one would intuitively tap to download a photo, but tapping the icon yields nothing.

Furthermore, my wallpaper won’t display on my lock or Home Screen. In settings, it shows both wallpapers are there, but in reality, my screens are black.

Now when I power down then restart my phone, my wallpapers momentarily display. MOMENTARILY! But the Home Screen wallpaper is the same as my Lock Screen wallpaper during this momentary display.

All of this started after the update to 16.2. My other iPhone that hasn’t updated doesn’t have ANY of these issues. Both phones are 13. The

problematic one is on a Verizon plan while the functioning one is on T-Mobile. I doubt that means anything.

This is absolutely infuriatingly maddening and appears to be an Apple issue.

Yeah, so exhaustingly searching the internet I found an enlightening article claiming this issue is linked to the “Focus” feature of this phone. It went on to give details about “linking” and “unlinking” and AOD and “pairing” and blah blah blah….

Trouble is, I’m not gonna go educate myself on all this baloney. I shouldn’t have to. I don’t have to relearn how to drive my car each time I get a new one. I shouldn’t have to relearn how to use my flipping phone each time there’s an update.

So Apple, you need to get your act together and fix this problem. I am so tired of all your cleverness that I may just revert to a good ol’ flip phone.

Here are some of the “fixes” I’ve gleaned. Neither is intuitive to me and neither is clear to me and neither should be needed

This is a user-to-user forum. Apple’s participation here is minimal and they don’t read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Product Feedback - Apple

By that logic, why complain at all?

I can give you a very recent example of Apple making a change based on feedback. With iOS 16, Apple added the battery percentage number back to the status bar on phones with the notch. However, lots of people hated the indicator didn’t change color. There were lots of complaints. It has already been changed.

In fact, the change from Do Not Disturb to Focus was most likely based on the complaints that Do Not Disturb was so seriously limited, complaints people have been making since DND first came out.

But, believe what you like. It, as my grandmother used to say, makes me no never mind.
