Nightstand mode for iPhone 14 Pro

This question has been asked in the community many times but I don't think it's been explained in this way.

Currently, If the phone is in lock screen, after a few seconds it goes into always-on-display(AOD) mode to where the screen dims but the wallpaper/time/widgets are still visible. Now...if I place the phone on my wireless charger with the screen locked, after a few seconds the phone dims into always-on-display mode but after a few more seconds the screen turns completely off. Why would Apple decide to disable (AOD) while the phone is charging????? Otherwise, (AOD) would make an excellent nightstand display. Or maybe I'm overlooking a setting that would prevent this from happening.

Hi Kenny904,

There are a few situation where the Always-On display will go dark. This may be expected behavior when on the change since the device is not being used for a while.

Check out: Use Always-On display with your iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max- Apple Support

Always-On display goes dark when you don't need it

- To save battery life, the display is completely dark when:
- Your iPhone is lying face down
- Your iPhone is in your pocket or bag
- Sleep Focus is on
- Low Power Mode is on
- Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay
- You're using Continuity Camera
- You haven't used your iPhone for a while (your iPhone learns your activity patterns and turns the display off and on accordingly, including if you set up an alarm or sleep schedule)
- Your iPhone detects that you moved away from it with a paired Apple Watch (Always-On display will turn on when your Apple Watch is close to your iPhone again)

Hope that helps!

None of the things you list here are what's occurring when the phone is on a nightstand charger. I don't have a sleep focus turned on. I'm assuming the phone isn't going into low power mode due to the fact that it's on a charger. If this is the case it's completely silly. My AOD stays on ALL DAY when the phone is NOT on a charger. Could Apple please give us that want it, a true nightstand mode setting that allows fine control of brightness and keeps the display on so I can simple a simple clock? I also have an Apple watch that I hoped would give me this feature but I'm forced to have to physically bump my side table if I want to know the time in the middle of the night. C'mon Apple, this isn't a complex piece of functionality here!
