Hello,
That lock icon (as per this support article:--> Rotate the screen on your iPhone or iPod touch ) should be in your Control Center, which can be opened using these instructions:--> Access Control Center on your iPhone

Me again, problem solved, by my granddaughter. The lesson learned is do not give modern tech to older people. The solution was to scroll up from the bottom of screen with a very light touch and up came the correct screen with the icon
included.
I do feel an idiot and sorry for wasting your time
best regards
julian
It should be in your Control Center.
Place your finger in the upper right corner of the screen and swipe down.
Hi Pilerman,
Just for clarification: that's true for iPhone model X or later (not for iPhone 8 or earlier, owend by the Author of this thread), as per the support article:--> Access Control Center on your iPhone
Giulio
EDIT: Oh, okay, you've now read the latest replies.
Take care :)
One of the links that Giulio posted is a great one. However, it didn't really make a good point about where they were placing their finger. They show a home screen and then the Control Center magically appears.
I grabbed a screenshot, while the video played, and then I marked it up to show where to place your finger (Red circle).
After placing your finger, just drag the screen downward.
Try it and see, but if it still doesn't work, you might need to take his advice and head to a store.
Happy New Year to you too!
Edit: I see that your granddaughter got it figured out. Oh wow! This will be the first time that I've ever seen an older model phone, running the current iOS, and have a totally different process of doing something (in this case, opening the Control Center)!
Kudos to Giulio as he in fact nailed the process a few posts ago!
Also, you didn't waste anybody's time here and you shouldn't feel that way! Your issue taught me something!
Julian,
Are you swiping up from the bottom using the gestures provided at the section "iPhone SE, and iPhone 8 and earlier" that I posted in my previous reply?
If you get no help, I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
Regards
Giulio
(*) You can do it:
Have a Happy New Year as well :)
Thank you for your response Giulio I do not think I gave a clear description of my problem. I wish to lock my screen on my iphone 8S in portrait or landscape. I cannot find anywhere the icon which controls this function? ie
All the "solutions " i have followed do not work?
I remember it used to be on a previous iphone model, I am an older person so I am confused so be gentle
Hello both Pilerman and Giulio thank you both for your responses I am beginning to believe there is something wrong with my phone. I have tried the best I can to open the Control centre via the swipe method but this does not seem to work, I get the APP Library The only way I get to a Control centre is using Settings, Control Center but the screen is nothing like those illustrated?? Any Clues?
Happy New Year
Julian
No worries, Julian.
It has been a pleasure :)
Giulio
What do you mean for "orientation icon"?
If you mean compass app, check if you accidentally moved it to a different screen page or into a folder.
Shouldn't be this case, open the App Library and drag that icon to your home page, using these instructions:--> Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone, and/or:--> Move apps and widgets on the Home Screen on iPhone
If you mean something different, please specify your needs better.
Thanks and regards
Giulio
