MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro Bluetooth issues

Hi All,

Happy New year!

I've had my MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro now for around 2 months and from the get go I've had a really annoying issue with my bluetooth, I first noticed the issues whilst taking Teams calls using my work headset, the audio at random would stutter. Thinking it was my headset I updated the firmware, completed a reset, deleted it from my bluetooth device list to reconnect it and also replaced it but the issue was still there, I have the same issue with my AirPod Pros. Over time I noticed it whilst using my Magic Track pad, randomly the mouse would become choppy whilst moving it around, also had the issue with a Magic Mouse and less noticeable the Magic keyboard.

I've reset the bluetooth module not he Mac, removed all bluetooth devices and re-added them, disconnected all peripheral devices (docking station, screens etc), disabled WiFi and used a USB Nic for internet access but still no joy. My most recent attempt to clear it was a fresh rebuild, I reinstalled Ventura and rather doing a Time Machine restore I manually set everything back up but this didn't help. I had the same issue with Monterey which it came with. I've Googled and tried other fixes such as disabling AirPlay device handoff but no joy. The built in track pad has no problem and playing audio through the built in speakers also has no issues.

I've been working with Apple tech support for some time now but they cannot identify the issue, so now reaching out to you guys to see if you've run into this issue and can offer any advice? It's extremely frustrating, it's completely random, sometimes it wont happen for days then it will happen a lot, I cannot recreate it, it happens at my home office and work. I don't have any issues with the Bluetooth on my iPhone whilst using my AirPod pros or my work Windows laptop.

I've had issues with Apple products over the years and they've been great in getting it sorted, but this one they are struggling to determine what the issue is and not making any progress in resolving it.

Thanks

For me, this started happening recently, even though I've had my M1 (16 inch) for about 4-5 months now (and the headset, etc., for longer). Usually, audio works just fine for a while, and I start noticing stutter after a couple of hours. I also tried a number of things until I realised that the easiest way to make it work again is to turn off Bluetooth on the laptop, then on again and reconnect the bluetooth devices. Turning the headset on and off again isn't enough, so it seems to be something in the laptop's bluetooth stack that's broken.

Hi Petterm,

Thanks for your reply. So I had another Google session and found a couple or articles that spoke about deleting com.Apple.Bluetooth.plist found in /Library/Preferences, then reboot the Mac. I'm no Apple expert and would follow this at your own risk, but since removing this file I've not had 1 issue and I did this on the 4th Jan. The MacOS has created a new version of it and all my Bluetooth devices have been working problem free.

Hopefully it stays that way!

Thanks
